Homework
Lab:
Monday through Friday from
2:30 to 4:30pm children and youth participate in a homework
lab. Staff and volunteers are always present and attentive
to help participants with their homework and make sure that
it is done and done well!

Reading Program:
All participants are encouraged to read daily. If a participant
has no homework, they may still participate in our recreational
activities if they complete 20 - 30 minutes of reading. Read

Special Classes: The children and youth are offered
special classes on a variety of subjects throughout the school
year. These classes are designed to enrich their lives and
teach them things they may not learn at school. Some examples
are: Girl Empowerment, Bullying and What to Do About It,
Fire Safety, Health & Hygiene, Drug Awareness, and Safety
Classes taught by the SHA Housing Officer Sgt. Pratt.
Community Service: The participants of the Youth Safe
Haven are given ample opportunity and encouragement during
the year to participate in community service events. The Safe
Haven organizes some events and others are community based.
Some examples: Food Pantry, Free Elderly Car Wash, Arts
& Crafts w/ Elderly, and Neighborhood Cleanups to name
a few...
Safe Haven Bank: Participants
who complete their homework and get it checked by staff or
volunteers earn 5 Safe Haven dollars. Their earnings are automatically
deposited in their Safe Haven Bank Accounts where they earn
interest on the "money" in their accounts. |

Recreation: Our recreation program is available to
any participant after their homework is complete and checked
by staff or volunteers. Recreation runs from 3:30 - 5:30pm,
Mon - Thurs and includes all of our structured activities,
computer lab, gym program and Thursday afternoon free time.
Computer Lab: We have 12 computers in our computer
lab that are connected to the Internet with a broadband connection.
The computers are always available to the children who need
them for homework purposes. 2 to 3 times a week the children
are allowed to use the computers for recreation.
Structured Activities: After homework is complete
and checked by staff or volunteers, participants are encouraged
to join in on our daily structured activities. Activities
include: Project, Boy/ Girl Scouts, The Adventure Program,
and much more...
Gym/ Sports: The Safe
Haven gym program runs daily from 4:30-5:30 for all participants
who completed their homework that day. Gym activities are
geared for all ages and skill levels and incorporate all aspects
of physical fitness, including stamina and cardiovascular
development as well as sportsmanship and team building. Read

Field Trips: Children/ Youth who partcipate
in the homework lab may use their Safe Haven Dollars to "pay"
for monthly recreational field trips. |
